“𝙋𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙣 𝙏𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚” is a 9th-century Hindu temple compound in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, in southern Java, Indonesia.

It's  dedicated to the Trimūrti, the expression of God as the Creator (Brahma), the Preserver (Vishnu) and the Destroyer (Shiva).

Originally built in 850 CE during the reign of the Hindu Sanjaya  Dynasty.

PRAMBANAN TEMPLE

Prambanan Temple (15 kilometers east of Yogyakarta) is the largest and most beautiful Hindu temple in Indonesia..

Named after the village where it is located, it was built in the 9th century 50 years after Borubudur and is known locally as the Temple of the Slender Virgin (Roro Jonggrang).Prambanan contains many lavish decorations and sexually-suggestive sculptures, scenes from the Ramayan and motifs that mix Hindu and Buddhist symbols. It has eight shrines which lie among green fields and villages. Architecturally, it is sort of like Angkor Wat with a central artichoke-shaped stupa surrounded by four smaller ones.

The three main temples are dedicated to Hindu gods Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. The biggest temple is dedicated to Shiva —the destroyer, and the two smaller ones which flank it on the east and west are dedicated to Brahma — the creator and Vishnu — the sustainer. The tallest temple of Prambanan—the main Shiva temple—is a staggering 47 meters (130 feet) high. Its peak is visible from far away and rises high above the ruins of the other temples. The temple across from the Shiva temple contains a fine image of a Nadi bull and the Lingga Batara Siwa stone, a symbol of fertility. . The main temple of Shiva houses the magnificent statue of a four-armed Shiva, standing on Buddhist-style lotus blossoms. In the northern cell is a fine image of Durga, Shiva’s consort. Some believe the Durga image is actually that of the Slender Virgin, who according to legend was turned to stone by a giant she refused to marry. The outsides are adorned with bas-reliefs depicting the Ramayana story.

Prambadan is surrounded by the ruins of 240 small “guard “ temples. Altogether there are 400 temples in the Prambadan area. Most are within five kilometers of Prambanan village and are generally not visited except by archeology nuts. But that is not to say they are not without merit. A good way to explore them is to rent a bicycle. The proximity of Prambanan and Buddhist Borobudur temple tells us that on Java, Buddhism and Hinduism lived peacefully next to one another.

From May to October at full moon, the classic Javanese Ramayana ballet or dance drama is performed by more than 250 dancers in an outdoor open stage with as its backdrop the full moon dramatically rising over the temples. The epic Ramayana tells the story of Prince Rama and his wife Sita who are wandering in the forest. When Rama sees a golden deer he chases it, but not before drawing a circle around Sita. He tells her not to step out of the circle to stay safe. The king of ogres Rahwana lures Sita out of the circle, abducts her and carries her to his kingdom, Alengka. The grief stricken Rama is assisted by the monkey king, Hanuman. who finds Sita in Rahwana’s palace. He burns Alengka and Sita is saved and restored to her husband.

Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir

If you are in Pakistan and want to visit an ancient miracle of Hindu Belief, then you can visit the Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir in Pakistan. It is in “Soldier Bazar Karachi” and is one of the ancient and oldest temples.

This historic temple existed before the partition of India-Pakistan. According to myths, Bhagwan Shri Ram (the central character of India’s greatest Hindu epic Ramayan) had come here once.

A Little History On The Magnificent Temple:

The temple holds a special significance as Hindus believe that the statue present in the Mandir is not man-made as it is the only one that holds naturally created statue of Hanuman.

This temple is the epitome of a historical masterpiece. It even existed before the partition of India-Pakistan and is believed to be seventeen hundred years old. Many years ago, a statue was found there. That statue had eight feet, and they were white and blue in color. The figure possessed all of Hanuman’s features as well as Narasimha, Adivaraha, Hayagriva, and Garuda.

As this Mandir is ancient and a sacred place for the Hindus as well, it was renovated in 2012 to preserve the tales it tells. During the renovation, different types of stones were used to enhance the beauty and charm of the place. During the refurbishment, 7-8 other statues of Hindu gods were also found along with;

Buffalo-like Idols

The Ganesha Idols

Sherawali Mata Idols

Some Earthen Pots

The Incredible Structure:

When you enter the Mandir, you are struck with the beauty of the small front porch of Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir. It has pillars carved of yellow stones on either side with a black and white marble floor, a wide passage for clockwise circumambulation (parikrama / pradakshina) runs around it.

People who visit the place really adore it for the trees present there as they have leaves of unusual shapes on them. Hanuman’s statue there is the spiritual attraction for Hindus and other devotees as well.

Ancient lore/Folklore Linked To The Mysterious Statue:

You can experience the essence of ancient lore here as the multiple communities like Maharashtrians, Sindhis, Balochis visit this temple on a regular basis. Hindus believe that once they complete 108 rounds around the chamber, their sins and worries vanish away. They find the Mandir a source of spiritual cleanliness. They have a firm belief that all scars present on soul disappear after the completion of rounds.

Devotees believe that the impressive idol of Lord Hanuman was found from the earth, and it is magical and sacred. They also say that if someone walks around the idol 11 or 21 times, all his wishes come true.
